Honors

  • Methacton School District offers many curricular and activity-based programming options that appeal to student interests and challenge students academically. Keeping with our strong tradition of academic excellence and best practice, our curricular offerings in honors courses are designed for students who have demonstrated that they are prepared to take on a more rigorous and faster pace curriculum.

    2024-25 Honors Criteria Requirements (for scheduling of courses in 2025-26 school year)

    6th to 7th Grade Honors Requirements

    Honors Reading and Honors English
    ● Scaled score of 626 or above as shown by the iReady Reading
    Diagnostic
    ● 95% or higher average grade in the ELA course

    Honors Science
    ● 90% or higher average in common assessments
    ● 95% or higher average
    ● Scaled score of 626 or above as shown by the iReady Reading
    Diagnostic

    Honors Social Studies
    ● 90% or higher average in common assessments
    ● 95% or higher average
    ● Scaled score of 626 or above as shown by the iReady Reading

    Recommendations:

    • Honors Algebra 1= 17+ points (70% of points available)
    • Honors Math 7 = 10-16 points 
    • Math 7 = below 10 points

     

    7th to 8th Grade Honors Requirements

    Honors English and Honors Reading:

    •  95% average in 7th grade English/92% average in 7th grade Honors English, and
    • 95% average in 7th grade Reading/92% average in 7th grade Honors Reading, and
    • 90% average on all major written pieces in 7th grade

    English Honors Science

    • 95% class average in 7th grade Science or 93% class average in 7th grade Honors Science

    Honors Social Studies

    • 95% class average in 7th grade Social Studies or 93% class average in 7th grade Honors Social Studies

    Honors Algebra I

    • ≥ 93% test average and 95% class average in Math 7 and/or teacher recommendation
    • ≥ 85% class average in Honors Math 7 and/or teacher recommendation

    Honors Geometry

    • 83% or higher average in Honors Algebra 1 in 7th grade

     

    Process for Appealing Course Placement

    Parents/guardians of students entering 7th Grade should:

    • Until the end of the school year, contact their child’s teacher(s) or Skyview administration with questions about academic scores and placement criteria
    • After June 13, contact Arcola’s counseling office at 610-489-5000 ext. 30202 to register for appeals testing

    Parents/guardians of students entering 8th Grade should:

    • Until the end of the school year, contact their child’s teacher(s) or Arcola administration with questions about academic scores and placement criteria
    • After June 13, contact Arcola’s counseling office at 610-489-5000 ext. 30202 to register for appeals testing

    Prior to the testing date, parents/guardians will be contacted with information about completing appeals testing.

    Within one week of the appeals test, parents/guardians will be contacted with the results of the assessment(s)
